Study Design- Prospective
Purpose-To evaluate the safety and efficacy of FS-LASIK and SMILE in patients with corneal opacity.
Methods- 20 eyes of 16 patients were recruited who underwent refractive correction of myopia or compund astigmatism.UDVA(uncorrected distance visual acuity), BDVA(Best corrected visual acuity), MRSE(Mean refraction spherical equivalent), level of opacity, Pentacam parameters, densitometry values were analysed from baseline to 3 months follow up and intraoperative and postoperative complications were noted.
Results-20 eyes with corneal opacity had a post op 3 month UDVA of 0.0 logmar . Statistically significant fall in densitometry was noted at post op 3 months and clinical decrease in opacity was noted in few eyes. Intraoperative complications like opaque bubble layer, bleed during dissection, hinge tear were noted however they did not alter the final visual outcome.
Conclusion-Patients with corneal opacity can successfully undergo corneal refractive surgeries.
