Abstract
Design: Retrospective cross-sectional observational study. Methods: Records of patients attending ophthalmic emergency from March to June 2020 were reviewed. The retinoblastoma cases were categorized based on urgency level and appropriate management was done as per the treatment protocol. After COVID-19 screening, ophthalmic examination was done. All healthcare professionals used personal protective equipment. Teleconsultations were encouraged. Results: 50 cases of retinoblastoma were reviewed (Males: 62%, Mean age: 3 yr 4 mo): 1 emergent, 21 urgent, 26 semi-urgent and 2 non urgent cases. Of 47 patients tested for COVID-19 test, two were positive. An intervention was delivered in 52 patients: 1-orbital biopsy, 9-enucleation, 27-focal therapy, 15 systemic chemotherapy. A reduction by 78.7% was seen in attendance of retinoblastoma clinic. Conclusion: The described model was a successful strategy practised to circumvent the impact of COVID-19 and the lockdown on retinoblastoma services
