FP3027 : Clinical outcomes of retro-pupillary iris claw IOL Fixation in pediatric age group

Abstract

STUDY DESIGN- Ambispective study. PURPOSE- To study the clinical outcomes of retro-pupillary iris claw IOL fixation in the pediatric eyes.METHODS-A study on 50 eyes of 28 children who underwent lensectomy with retro pupillary fixated iris claw IOL was conducted at Dr. R. P. Centre, AIIMS, Delhi from Jan 2019 to August 2021. The postoperative visual acuity, pupil size, effective lens position on UBM and complications were noted.
RESULTS-The mean age of the children was 8.32 (±1.52) years and the mean follow-up was 15 months. The best corrected LogMAR visual acuity improved from 0.82 (±0.45) to 0.30 (±0.24). The mean post-op spherical equivalent was +1.12(±1.91) at the last follow-up. The mean endothelial cell loss was 2.8%. 44% eyes had early horizontal pupil ovalization, 10% had IOL disenclavation. None of the eyes developed uveitis or macular edema.CONCLUSION- Retro-pupillary iris claw IOL fixation in pediatric aphakia with insufficient capsular support yields good clinical outcomes.
