FP2976 : Clinico-microbiological profile and outcomes of Klebsiella keratitis at a tertiary centre

Abstract

Purpose- to characterize the clinicomicrobiological profile and outcomes of Klebsiella keratitis. Methods:Retrospective records-based study. All cases of culture proven Klebsiella keratitis were included from 2010-2020.Results: 62 cases were included.Mean presenting age was 45.6 +/- 17.9 years. An ocular inciting factor was identified in 38 (61.3%) cases. Mean visual acuity at presentation was 1.88+/- 0.65 logMAR. Median size of the infiltrate was 3mm.Infiltrate was anterior to mid-stromal in 32(51.6%).Median duration to resolution was 29 days.Final visual acuity was 2.01 +/- 1.2 logMAR.Worse final visual acuity was associated with size (r=0.34; p=0.04),depth of the infiltrate (p<0.001) and presence of an ocular inciting factor (p=0.023). Conclusion: Klebsiella keratitis has a poor visual outcome despite effective treatment. A significant number of eyes have a worse visual acuity than at presentation. Addition of topical steroids does not lead to significantly favourable outcomes
