FP2926 : Laser Induced Ocular Injuries

Abstract

Laser light has been finding its use in a wide array of circumstances. In this study, we shed light on the types of ocular injuries incurred due to laser light.
Laser is being increasingly used by dermatologists for cosmetic purposes. Several cases are often seen where improper use of laser leads to ocular injury to the patient, or rarely to the administrator.
This study highlights the various tissues of the eye that could get injured during a laser procedure, their clinical manifestations, effective management and ways to prevent them.

A case series was prepared to collate the various cases where ocular injury was incurred due to improper use of laser. Patients were treated as per the type of injury. Highlight includes a Large Retinal Hole following injury by Q-Switched Nd YAG Laser to a dermatologist

Lasers are commonly used these days for various applications. Caution needs to be exercised while using them so as to prevent ocular injuries and prevent catastrophic visual sequelae.
