FP2795 : Clinical and radiological findings in cerebral visual impairment (CVI) children.

Abstract

Purpose:To identify common MRI findings in CVI children
Methods:In this retrospective case study,we reviewed MRI of 20 children with CVI.
Results:Out of 20 children,17 had neonatal seizures,3 had hypoglycemia,2 had sepsis,3 had meconium aspiration.Ten children presented before 1 year of age with lack of eye contact.Amongst 10 children presenting after 1 year of age,2 had difficulty in localizing objects,3 had difficulty in identifying, reading and writing letters,2 had poor visual attention,3 had difficulty in reaching the target. The commonest MRI finding was periventricular leukomalacia(PVL),cystic lesions, irregularly dilated lateral ventricles.Other associated findings were corpus callosum thinning, diffuse cerebral atrophy, polymicrogyria and infarcts in parietal, occipital, frontal lobes and gliosis in thalamus.
Conclusion:Although PVL is the commonest MRI finding in CVI children, involvement of other higher vision areas should also be looked for and correlated with visual deficits.
