Abstract

17 eyes with open angle glaucoma underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of iStent Inject (Glaukos Corporation, Laguna Hills, CA). During implantation, three signs were observed to be associated with successful implantation and optimal functioning as follows: 1. Mild ooze of blood from the site of implantation 2. ‘Blanching Sign’ – On over pressurizing the anterior chamber after implantation, blanching of conjunctiva adjacent to site of implantation was observed. 3. ‘Fluid Lake Sign’ – Intraoperative OCT shows subconjunctival collection of fluid adjacent to site of implantation. Postoperatively at 6 months, mean IOP decreased from 16.87±5.58 to 14.12±2.09 mmHg which was statistically significant (p=0.001). Of 17 eyes, only 2 eyes (11.76%) required continued antiglaucoma medications postoperatively. In these two eyes, only one out of the three signs of the triad was observed. We hypothesise that all the signs being positive indicate successful implantation of iStent Inject.
