Abstract
Study Design: It is a prospective observational hospital-based study
Purpose: To study the ganglion cell layer (GCL) thickness in myopia
Methods: 160 eyes of 93 myopic subjects without glaucoma were included. SD-OCT was used to determine the macula's GCL thickness and percentile values.
Results: The global percentile values within normal limits (>5%) were seen in 107 eyes, Borderline (<5%) in 30 eyes, and outside normal limits of (<1%) in 23 eyes. On bivariate analysis, negative significant correlations were seen of the global GCL thickness values with age (p<0.001; r=-0.407), axial length (p=0.003; r=-0.231), category of myopic maculopathy (p=0.05; r=-0.223) and total clock hours of parapapillary atrophy (p=0.005; r=-0.222) respectively. A positive significant correlation was seen with the spherical equivalent (p=0.002; r=0.240).
Conclusions: Increased axial length and age were associated with reduced GCL thickness in myopia.
