STUDY DESIGN-Case series
PURPOSE-Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most common multisystem infectious diseases in developing countries, but orbital and adnexal involvement is a rare manifestation of extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
METHODS–Retrospective analysis-6 atypical cases.
RESULTS- Case 1 & 2 – adnexal presentation of tuberculosis which had been misdiagnosed and treated as – meibomitis and recurrent chalazia elsewhere. Case 3 – HIV positive male with mechanical ptosis and ipsilateral regional lymphadenopathy. Case 4 – Another case was of female with follicular conjunctivitis who turned out to be a case of conjunctival TB. 5th case was of a TB defaulter with epiphora for past 1 year, who underwent DCR surgery. Biopsy of sac confirmed tubercular dacryocystitis. 6th case was a young male of pulmonary TB with bilateral swelling for 4 months and was finally diagnosed with tubercular dacryoadenitis.
CONCLUSION-TB is a great mimicker and orbital adnexal TB can be difficult to diagnose.
