Abstract

Aim: To study the changes in structural and functional parameters before and after trabeculectomy in glaucoma patients
Methods: A Prospective study was conducted with 22 POAG patients. We calculated HVF & OCT parameters before and after trabeculectomy. GQL-15 questionnaire was also assessed
Results: 22 eyes of POAG patients were recruited. The mean age was 56.3±14.2 years. There were 72% males and 28% females. There was a significant reduction in IOP (p<0.01) and number of antiglaucoma medications at 6 months. Significant increase in ONH-Rim area (p=0.032)& Rim width (p=0.023) was noted. There was significantly improvement in Quality of life as assessed by GQL15 questionnaire (p<0.01) at 6 months. An increase in average RNFL thickness was observed at 1 month after surgery which reverted back to normal at 6 months
Conclusion: Trabeculectomy resulted in anatomic changes to the optic nerve head rim and cup in early postoperative period. It also significantly improves patients QOL
