FP2653 : A peculiar case report: Ocular trauma caused by helmet impact

Abstract

Purpose-We report this case to highlight an unusual mechanism of injury by the pro shield of a helmet and to show the need for eye protection in spite of wearing a helmet. Methods- A 38-year-old male presented with chief complaint of ocular injury in both the eyes, in spite of wearing a helmet, in a road traffic accident. His right eye had globe rupture with uncorrected visual acuity of PL,and his left eye was auto-enucleated.Result- The patient underwent emergency repair of the globe rupture in the righteye to prevent further complications, such as infection or loss of vision. In the case of the auto-enucleated left eye, the primary concern was to address the cosmetic aspect and provide psychological support to the patient. Conclusion- Prosthetic rehabilitation and counseling were offered to aid in the patients adjustment to the loss of the eye.
