FP2629 : Treatment Compliance in Retinoblastoma: Identifying barriers, intervening and assessing compliance

Abstract

Study design: Retrospective data collection (2019-2022)

Purpose: Identifying causes of non-compliance and studying effectiveness of interventions in improving compliance of retinoblastoma(RB) patients

Method: RB patients divided into group1(2019-20) and group 2 (2021-22). Group 2 received additional interventions- monetary help for treatment, diagnostics, travel, food and stay and 24-hr counselling service.

Result: Group 1(60 patients) and group 2 (86 patients) had similar demographic profile. Most common barriers were enucleation (17.86%), finances (14.38%), superstitions (12.32%), advanced stage (8.9%), family issues (8.2%) and covid lockdown (6.16%). 67% compliance rate in group 1 increased to 83% in group 2.

Conclusion: Identifying and assessing barriers in treatment can result in improved compliance. Overcoming certain barriers still remains a challenge in 17% of our patients despite all support.
