FP2621 : "THE WIDE AND TIDY OF BLEPHAROPHIMOSIS-PTOSIS-EPICANTHUS INVERSUS SYNDROME”

Abstract

STUDY DESIGN-case report
PURPOSE-New approach to treat BPES with two staged surgery , thus being minimally invasive aswell improving post surgical cosmetic and functional outcome.
METHOD-A 11 month old female child , came with evident signs of BPES, bilateral since birth, with severe ptosis (PFH-4mm) , frontalis overaction , telecanthus (intercanthal distance-30mm) , epicanthus inversus , horizontal palpebral fissure length-18mm, absent lid crease & deficient LPS action , with positive family history (mother). The child underwent medial epicanthoplasty with new technique of redraping , followed 1 month later by frontalis muscle flap advancement surgery.
RESULT- BE post operative measurements – Intercanthal distance 24mm , horizontal palpebral fissure length 22 mm , palpebral fissure height 7mm.
CONCLUSION- Insted of commonly practised V-Y plasty or Mustardes flap & Frontalis sling surgery, newer TWO staged surgical approach , gives better outcome both functionally and cosmetically.
