Abstract
Methods:We retrieved data from Medical Record Department for all children (0 to 18) who had undergone lacrimal surgeries between January 2008 to December 2013 at tertiary eye care centre. Keeping in mind the specific consideration of syringing without any fear of aspiration and identification and management of bleeding during these surgeries, general anaesthesia along with endo tracheal intubation was preferred. All surgeries, methods medicines and complications of anaesthesia were properly documented
Results:Altogether 285 cases-155 male patients with median age 3years were operated.Out of these 249 were probing only and 36 probing with intubation. Haemorrhage occurred in two cases where as in one case we dealt successfully with aspiration.
Conclusion:Combination of General anaesthesia with intubation is a good cost effective and safe method for ocular anaesthesia in children for lacrimal surgeries.
