Abstract
Study Design-Prospective Study. Purpose : Study is to evaluate the effect of OCCI with AK compared to Single cornea incision. Adding CCI opposite the first one can enhance the flattening effect on cornea. The paired opposite CCIs (OCCIs) are placed on the steepest meridian axis to flatten it. AK corrects the astigmatism by taking limbal relaxing incisions on steepest part of cornea. Methods : 40 patients with PEA of >2 diopters underwent phacoemulsification OCCI. The control group consisted of 35 patients with PEA >2 D who underwent phacoemulsification without OCCI/AK. Keratometry was recorded for all patients pre-operatively and post-operatively.
Results-Using keratometry, Mean astigmatism correction was 1.8 D (decreased from 2.9 D pre-operatively to 1.1 D post-operatively) in the OCCI+AK group but only 0.4 D in the control group(P<0.005), after 4 months. Conclusion
-OCCI has an enhanced effect in correcting astigmatism when combined with AK compared to a single cornea incision.
