Abstract

This is a retrospective, interventional, non-comparative, single-center study. 18 eyes of 17 patients, who have received TCTA injection for noninfectious non-necrotizing anterior scleritis, with a minimum follow up 4 weeks were included. All patients received 40mg/ml of triamcinolone acetonide injection transconjunctivally.Outcome measures including resolution of signs and symptoms, time to recurrence and side effect profile were studied.
88% eyes (16 eyes) had complete resolution of symptoms after first dose of TCTA at 2 weeks follow up. Mean IOP before TCTA treatment was 14.35 mm Hg and 1 month post-injection was 15.12mm Hg (p=.18, p<.05). At last, follow up, 13 patients (72%) were completely free of therapy. None developed elevated intra ocular pressure, cataract or scleral necrosis after TCTA injection as the steroids are not in the vicinity of the trabecular meshwork and ciliary body which gives extended periods of remission with no dependence on systemic immunosuppression.
