FP2406 : ROTH SPOTS IN ANAEMIA

Abstract

Purpose-To report a case of Roth spots in anaemic patient. method-A 46 old female patient was referred from medicine department for fundus examination in view of type 2 diabetes mellitus.Patient had complaints of generalised weakness since 4 month.Patient is a known case of type 2 diabetes mellitus since 6 month &on medication.She had history of blood transfusion (2pint)1day back for anaemia,as her haemoglobin was 6.6gm/dl
clinical finding-The slit-lamp examination is normal in both eyes
Dilated fundus examination revealed multiple scattered flame shaped haemorrhages with central white areas suggestive of Roth spots
conclusion- Roth’s spots has been described in many other conditions like toxoplasmosis, HIV, leukaemia, diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, vasculitis, neonatal birth trauma and non-accidental trauma or abusive head trauma in children.The proposed mechanism may be attributed to rupture of retinal blood vessels followed by platelets and fibrin aggregation
