Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective, observational study
PURPOSE: To report longterm outcomes following Cionni modified capsule tension ring (MCTR) and in-the-bag intra-ocular lens (IOL) implantation.
METHODS: The study included 41 eyes with subluxated lenses that underwent lens extraction, capsular bag fixation with MCTR and in-the-bag IOL implantation. All eyes completed minimum 5 years follow-up. Outcome measures were best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at final follow up, IOL centration and complications.
RESULTS: Mean age: 19.9 years. 24 eyes were paediatric eyes (<15 years of age). Marfan’s Syndrome accounted for 39% cases. Mean follow-up: 9.89 years. At final follow up, 32 eyes (74%) had BCVA better than 6/12. IOL decentration was noted in 7 eyes (17.1%) requiring a secondary surgery. 41.4% eyes required Nd:YAG capsulotomy. Retinal detachment was seen in 4 eyes (9.8%).
CONCLUSION: Cionni ring bag fixation with IOL ensures stable IOL with acceptable rate of complications in long-term.
