FP2376 : Analysis of Serum Vitamin D levels in Patients with Retinal Vascular Occlusion: A Case Control Study

Abstract

Study design : A Case Control Study
Purpose:To analyze serum vitamin D levels in patients with retinal vascular occlusion
Methods: To estimate serum vitamin D levels in patients with retinal vascular occlusion and whether there is difference in serum vitamin D level between ischemic and non-ischemic sub-types of retinal vascular occlusion
Results:
1) The difference in the mean vitamin D values between the two groups was found to be statistically significant
2) The associations between serum vitamin D and type of vascular occlusion was found to be statistically significant
3)The difference in the baseline vitamin D value between the ischemic and non -ischemic sub groups were found to be statistically significant .
Conclusion: The present study concluded that, there exists a high prevalence of low serum vitamin D levels among the patients of all sub-types of retinal vascular occlusion, thereby highlighting the importance of evaluating serum vitamin D levels in all cases of RVO.
