Abstract
STUDY DESIGN. This is a retrospective, interventional case-series of 40 patients with moderate primary or secondary Open Angle Glaucoma and concomitant cataract. The minimum follow-up period was one year. PURPOSE. To study the outcome of this recently-described procedure in our population. METHODS. All 40 patients underwent phacoemulsification with PCIOL along with hemi-GATT (Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy), wherein the inferior 180 degrees of the trabecular meshwork was unroofed using a 5-0 Prolene suture. RESULTS. The average pre-operative IOP was 28 mm Hg with two or more topical anti-glaucoma medications. The average post-operative IOP was 16 mm Hg at one-month follow-up visit. At the end of one year, 18 patients had IOP <17 mm Hg without any medication; 4 patients needed one medication to keep IOP below 17 mm Hg. 20% patients developed transient hyphema. CONCLUSION. Phaco+hemi-GATT is a promising surgery for combined cataract and open angle glaucoma
