FP2327 : COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF PHACOEMULSIFICATION & MSICS IN PATIENTS WITH PSEUDOEXFOLIATION

Abstract

Patients with pseudoexfoliation (PXF) are more vulnerable for complications during cataract surgery. Intraoperative, postoperative complications and resurgeries were analysed retrospectively in 9875 eyes with cataract and PXF from January 2018 to December 2022. Phacoemulsification (group A) was performed in 2657 eyes and M-SICS (group B) was performed in 7218 eyes. Intraoperative complication assessed between group A & group B included posterior capsule rent (1.5% & 2.1%), zonular dialysis (0.87% & 2.4%), nucleus drop (0.2% & 0.1%) and failure to implant IOL (0.1% & 0.7%). Postoperative complication assessed between group A & B included persistent corneal edema (1.6% & 2.5%). Re-surgery rate between group A & B were anterior chamber reformation (0% & 0.2%), IOL redialing (0.04% & 0.1%), anterior vitrectomy (0.3% & 0.8%). As complications rate was higher in group B, this study recommends phacoemulsification as a preferred technique in cataract with PXF patients.
