FP2246 : Diagnosis and management of retinal vasculitis following an uneventful retinal detachment surgery

Abstract

Retrospective study of 4 cases who underwent uneventful retinal detachment surgery with silicone oil. They developed signs of occlusive vasculitis with retinal haemorrhages. Time period between vitreoretinal surgery and development of vasculitis ranged from 5 days to 3 months. It was confirmed by FFA which showed features of peripheral ischaemia, vascular leakage. After ruling out systemic causes of vasculitis, patients were treated with intravenous methylprednisolone for 3 consecutive days followed by oral steroids. Subsequently all of them showed signs of improvement clinically although vision improved only in 2 cases. Frequent follow up post operatively often helps in early diagnosis and prompt treatment with high dose steroids can be an effective way to control post operative vasculitis and can prevent severe visual loss
