FP2163 : Screening of premature infant of Retinopathy of Prematurity in a Tertiary Care Centre of Prayagraj

Abstract

AIM: To conduct an effective ROP screening for estimating the incidence of ROP, and to identify the risk factors that predispose to ROP.
Methods: The present prospective study was conducted at Ophthalmology department of tertiary care center from 2021 – 2023. 220 infants admitted to the NICU who met the ROP screening criteria a) ≤34 weeks of gestation, (b) ≤2000 g of birth weight (BW), (c) infants with significant risk factors (sepsis, respiratory distress syndrome, long-term oxygen use or hydrocephalus) were included. First screening was done at 30 weeks or 4 weeks of life whichever is later.
Results: . Highest incidence was seen in stage I, followed by stages II, and III. No patients had stages IV and V. The most prevalent prenatal risk factor found was multiple gestation and postnatal risk factors were anemia, low BW, low GA, and the use of oxygen therapy.
Conclusions:  ROP Screening, in India, should be performed in all preterm neonates who falls under ROP screening criteria .
