Abstract
Study design:Retrospective study.Purpose:To report outcomes of lacrimal sac tumors (LST) accidentally undergoing DCR.Methods:8 patients of LST s/p DCR were included.Results:25% were SFTs,25% were DLBCL,25% were papillomas and 1 each of mucoepidermoid and transitional cell Ca.Most common symptom was epiphora in 87% pts.Pre DCR photo was available for 1 patient which revealed sac swelling extending above MCT.Another case had a history of excessive bleeding on table leading to abandonment of surgery.1 patient underwent orbital exenteration and 6 underwent DCT.Additional chemo and radiotherapy were required for the lymphoma and mucoepidermoid CA cases. At median FU of 27 mths (Range:1-6 yrs)all patients were alive and free of disease except 1, who didn’t undergo any treatment. He had a nose and ear recurrence of papilloma at 1and 2yrs.Conclusion: LST to be considered for all patients with unusual features.Performing DCT in such cases gives a good outcome over a long term FU.
