Abstract

STUDY DESIGN:Prospective, single case study.
STUDY PURPOSE:To present a case of resolution of conjunctival varices in a case of rheumatoid arthritis following topical steroid and systemic immunosuppressive therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:An elderly patient was diagnosed to have rheumatoid arthritis with ocular involvement in the form of dry eyes.On subsequent evaluation and follow up visits, he was found to have multiple conjunctival varices in the inferonasal quadrant. Slit lam photo, ASOCT and PSOCT were documented, medications including topical steroids were prescribed and patient was followed up regularly.
RESULTS: After 1 month of treatment with topical steroid (Prednsisolone 1% eye drops), with systemic immunosuppressive therapy there was resolution of conjunctival varices.
CONCLUSION: Though ocular involvements is reported, a case of rheumatoid arthritis with conjunctival varices that resolved on topical steroids and systemic immunosuppressants has rarely been reported.
