Abstract

Colobomas are a rare congenital malformation of the neuroectodermal tissue of the optic cup. They occur due to an error in the fetal fissure closure, normally occurring between the fifth and sixth weeks of gestation. It may involve the cornea, iris, zonula, ciliary body, choroid, retina and optic nerve. The incidence of this syndrome is 0.7 per 10 000 live-births. Other ocular conditions like cataracts, lens subluxation, secondary glaucoma, amblyopia, strabismus and anisometropia have been related.Lens coloboma is a congenital anomaly of the capsular bag due to abnormalities of the zonules and ciliary body. It is not a true coloboma because there is no actual loss of lens substance, but a secondary manifestation of congenital absence of zonules in a quadrant of the eye. The authors report a case of lenticular coloboma coexisting with iridochoroidal coloboma and micro cornea in one eye of 50 years old male patient.
