Abstract

Study Design: Descriptive
Purpose: Though eyelid myokymia or eyelid tics is usually a temporary condition, sometimes it could be a sign of serious neurological problem like Tourette syndrome. During COVID-19 pandemic there was rapid onset of Tic-like behaviour among children. So, to find out whether there is any association between Tic-like behaviour & COVID-19 this study was done.
Method: A review of literature on Tic-like behaviour was conducted through PubMed search primarily focusing on studies published during COVID-19 pandemic.
Results: Teenage onset, female dominant, more arm movements, long phrases, aggression ,self-injurious behaviour, coprolalia are some typical features of the of these Tic-like behaviours, which are only infrequently encountered in typical Tics disorder.
Conclusion: Tic-like behaviour during COVID-19 pandemic was due to the video app TikTok where videos with # tourette, tics were widely circulated among teenagers & not directly related to the virus.
