Abstract
Purpose
To assess clinical profile, efficacy and outcomes of Tenon’s patch graft (TPG) in corneal perforations.
Methods:
We studied a total of 13 eyes of 13 patients who underwent TPG for corneal perforation while on treatment for underlying pathology. Clinical examination, serial photographs and AS OCT were performed at every follow up visit. Anatomical success was considered as restoration of structural integrity and eventually opacification.
Results:
The mean followup period was 8.6 ± 3.5 months. Common underlying etiologies were infectious (61%), autoimmune (23%), traumatic (0.07%). Globe integrity was successfully restored in all eyes and no subsequent surgical procedure was required. The median time for epithelialization was 8 ± 2.44 weeks
Conclusion
Tenons patch graft is an effective form of treatment for patients with corneal perforation where the donor cornea is unavailable or in centres with limited resources.
