FP1571 : LIGHT : A NOVEL WAY TO TREAT CHALAZION

Abstract

• Study design : Prospective Cross Sectional
• Purpose : To evaluate the efficacy of IPL for chalazion treatment.
• Methods : Main inclusion : Acute, Chronic , Recurrent chalazion / chalazia, Main exclusion : Fitzpatrick skin type VI, Treatment : 1 or more IPL sittings.

• Results : 58 eyelids of 50 patients were treated with 1 to 3 IPL sessions.
80% of the patients showed complete resolution with 1-4 sittings.
20% of patients showed partial resolution with multiple sittings ( 4 maximum)
None of the treated patients showed any complications.
Acute chalazion needed maximum of 1 sitting for complete resolution.
Chronic and recurrent chalazion required multiple sittings for complete resolution.
• Conclusion : IPL is safe and effective for treating chalazia (especially long standing and recurrent). Yet another technique added to armamentarium of treating chalazia, though the long term effects have yet to be studied.
