Abstract

Study design- Descriptive study
Purpose – We aim to evaluate the clinical features of patient presenting with papilledema secondary to IIH.
Methods-A 47 years old female presented with 2 months of progressive generalised headache, vomiting, blurred vision and pulsatile tinnitus.There were no positive neurological findings ophthalmological examination revealed papilledema, visual field test showed enlargement of blind spot.Increased opening pressure was found on the lumbar puncture.MRI brain and orbits showed flattening of the globe, an enlarged optic nerve sheath an empty sella MRV showed left transverse and sigmoid sinus hypoplasia.The patient was treated with lumbar puncture,acetazolamide, topiramate and V-P shunt surgery
Result-On follow up, showed dramatic improvement of symptoms and sign and visual acuity improved.
Conclusion –Papilledema secondary to IIH is a rare and potentially sight threatening condition.An earlier diagnosis and treatment is essential to avoid optic atrophy.
