Abstract
Study design: A prospective Randomized Control Study (RCT) was done to compare 2 thyroid eye disease (TED) treatments: weekly EUGOGO & 3-week low-dose IVMP.
Purpose: It aimed to evaluate their efficacy and safety in naïve patients with active TED.
Methods: Data was collected from 2017 to 2022, with primary analysis at the end of the cycles and at 3, 6, and 12 months post-therapy. Primary outcomes included changes in CAS, proptosis, visual acuity, and diplopia. Secondary outcomes were scleral show, compliance, and complications.
Result: We had a total of 66 patients (n=33 each) with a median age of 43.1 years. The mean clinical follow-up was 39.5 ± 23.1 months. The 3-week IVMP group showed better diplopia and eyelid swelling improvement, higher compliance (96% vs. 63%), and fewer corticosteroid-related side effects (13% vs. 48%).
Conlusion: 3-week low-dose IVMP offers promising TED treatment with improved clinical outcomes, compliance, and fewer side effects.
