Abstract

Purpose:To study the ocular manifestations of Hepatitis B infection at tertiary care eye hospital
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary care eye hospital in India from 1st Jan 2020 to 31st December 2022.Patients undergoing any form of ocular surgery or requiring systemic work up or were included in the study.
Results:898 samples were collected .14 (1.5%) patients were HBsAg positive. 4 (28.5%) patients presented as acute anterior uveitis with cells, flare and keratic precipitates. 6 (42.8%) patients had corneal ulcer, and 5 patients with corneal ulcer (66.6%) patients underwent penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) and all of them had graft failure (100%). 1(7.1%) patient had posterior segment manifestations in form of vitreous hemorrhage with full thickness macular hole.
Conclusion: Though Hepatitis B is a systemic infection, it can have ocular manifestation in from of acute anterior uveitis and cornel ulcer. HbsAG positive patients are at highest risk of graft failure.
