Abstract

Study Design: Prospective Observational Purpose: To determine if near visual acuity improves in emmetropic pseudophakic eyes with EDOF IOLs & hybrid monofocal without reducing distance vision after inducing myopic astigmatism & negative spherical aberration. Methods: 80 eyes had uncomplicated phacoemulsification with AcrySof Vivity IOL & Tecnis Eyhance IOL with refraction by single optometrist undergoing VA test for near, intermediate & distance with baseline SA on Visual adaptive optics simulator.Patients were induced with acceptable myopic astigmatism.SA was modulated and cylinder was optimized to obtain improved near VA & defocus curves plotted. Results: Inducing negative SA, near & intermediate VA improved, Vivity performing better than Eyhance.With induced myopic astigmatism, distance VA decreased (p<0.01) in both groups with improved intermediate & near VA (p<0.0001).Conclusion: Inducing negative SA and myopic astigmatism may improve the near and intermediate VA with EDOF IOLs.
