FP1305 : Comparison of Trabeculectomy and Phacotrabeculectomy in patients with advanced glaucoma

Abstract

Retrospective comparative observational study
Purpose -to compare the visual outcomes, IOP reduction, complications and need of antiglaucoma medication after Trabeculectomy and Phacotrabeculectomy in patients with advanced glaucoma.
Methods-retrospective review of 49 eyes of 44 patients with advanced glaucomatous who underwent augmented Trab or Phacotrab was done. Pre and post-op BCVA, IOP, complications and interventions, No of glaucoma medicines preop and at 6 months and one year postop was compared in both groups using Mann-Whitney U test with p value of < 0.5 as significant.
Results-27 eyes underwent trab with MMC and 22 eyes, PT with MMC. No significant difference was seen in no of medicines preop, 6 months and one year postop. complication rate was comparable (25.9% and 27.27%). drop in vision was seen in 3 patients in trab group.
Conclusion- both trab and PT were equally efficacious in controlling IOP however higher risk of drop in vision was seen in trab gp.
