FP1300 : Outcomes of Scleral Buckle in Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment-A Retrospective Analysis of 307 Eyes

Abstract

Study design-Retrospective observational study. Purpose-1.To determine clinical characteristics of patients with Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RRD) undergoing scleral buckle surgery (SB) and their impact on final visual outcome 2.To determine primary attachment rate following SB, complications and subsequent management. Method-307 eyes(290 patients) with RRD who underwent SB surgery from January 2016 to December 2021 with minimum follow-up period of 6 months were studied. Results-97% of eyes undergoing SB were phakic. Primary anatomical attachment was achieved in 93% of eyes.‘Macula on’ detachment bore significant relationship with visual gain; while age, refractive status, number of breaks, configuration of detachment, traumatic etiology and lens status did not have the same impact. Eyes with recurrent detachment did not show significant visual gain after PPV.Conclusion-SB was done most commonly in phakic eyes. Presenting Macular status played significant role in visual prognosis.
