Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: A prospective observational study.OBJECTIVE:To determine RNFL thickness as reliable cut-off value to predict postop visual improvement in patients of pituitary macroadenoma.METHODOLOGY:Preop OCT RNFL was done.Postop changes in VA,visual fields noted.Receiver operating characteristic curves made to define ideal RNFL cut off.RESULT:29cases(58eyes) were studied.Mean age was 43.9 (±12.85) years and 65.5% were male,mean follow-up for10months. RNFL was thinner in visual dysfunction,optic disc pallor.Better preop VA,higher RNFL thickness,smaller tumor volume were associated with improvement on univariate analysis,Only mean RNFL thickness had significant association on multivariate analysis.Best cut-off mean RNFL thickness for visual field improvement estimated 81μm of 73.1% sensitivity,62.5% specificity.CONCLUSION:Preop RNFL thickness can be objective predictor of visual field outcomes after surgery for pituitary macroadenomas,with moderate sensitivity and specificity.
