FP1034 : Outcome of Scleral Patch Grafting for Scleral Thinning

Abstract

Purpose: Scleral thinning is a serious progressive condition which arises from diverse congenital, degenerative, traumatic, post-surgical, immunological or infectious etiologies. It can lead to perforation. Conservative management includes topical anti-inflammatory or steroids, immunosuppressors and monoclonal antibodies. Surgical management includes scleral transplantation, amniotic membrane transplantation, conjunctival flaps.Material and methods: We report the case of a 70 years old female, presenting with history of fall of foreign body in the eye followed by prolonged rubbing resulting in right eye scleral thinning. Patient underwent scleral transplantation, wherein a scleral patch graft was taken after appropriate preparation and sterilization. Patient was given a course of oral antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, topical steroid, antibiotic and lubricating drops.Results: The graft was found to be settled properly.Conclusion: There were no signs of rejection at 6 months follow-up.
