Abstract
A 26 year old male presented with penetrating injury to his left eye with a shrapnel while working. His uncorrected visual acuity was 3/60 , he had circumcorneal congestion with a sealed corneal entry wound of 2×1 mm and mild anterior uveitis. The crystalline lens revealed a metallic foreign body measuring 2×1 mm embedded in the substance of lens along with a posterior capsule dehiscence with cataractous lens changes. A final diagnosis of L/E high velocity penetrating open globe injury Zone 2,Type C,Grade 4,Without RAPD, With Traumatic cataract and Posterior capsule dehiscence was made The patient was started on topical antibiotics , Cycloplegics ,Antiglaucoma drops and steroids with oral antibiotics and pain killers. He underwent manual small incision cataract surgery with Foreign body removal with 3-piece intraocular lens (IOL) placed in the sulcus with optic capture.
