Abstract
Purpose: To compare structural parameters of ciliary body (CB) in eyes with aqueous misdirection (AqM) and controls using ultrasound biomicroscope (UBM).
Methods: Retrospective case control study of 27 eyes with AqM syndrome and 27 controls with angle closure disease. UBM parameters were assessed using ImageJ and compared.
Results: Mean age of patients with AqM was 58.9 ±13.4years and controls was 46.45 ±14.1years (p=0.0035).Mean CB thickness at scleral spur level was 0.57±.17mm in AqM eyes and 0.97 ±0.19 mm in controls( p<.0001). Mean maximum CB thickness was 0.71±0.16mm in AqM cases and 1.17±.22mm in controls (p<.0001).Mean CB area was 1.47±.39mm2 versus 1.99±.48 mm2( p=.007), mean anterior placement of ciliary body 0.85± 0.35mm versus 0.49 ±.22mm(p=.0002) in cases and controls respectively.
Conclusion: CB area and thickness was significantly less in eyes with AqM (thinner ciliary body) as compared to controls with a thinner and anteriorly rotated ciliary body in AqM eyes.
