FP2326 : Title Rotational stability of toric IOL implantation following phacoemulsification without OVD

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the rotational stability and outcome of toric IOL implantation following phacoemulsification without OVD. Design: Prospective, randomized, clinical interventional study. Methods: Patients with senile cataract with astigmatism from 1-3 D were enrolled. One group underwent conventional OVD assisted phaco and other group OVD free phaco. UCVA, astigmatism, IOL rotation, endothelial cell density was evaluated at 1 and 3 months. IOP measurement was done 4 hours after the surgery and every visit.Results:120 patients were enrolled in the study. The mean age in OVD group was 61.1 + 7.84 years and in hydro group was 63.72 + 7.51 years. There were no statistically significant differences in UCVA, BCVA, residual astigmatism, IOP, ECD at 1and 3 month visit. The mean IOL rotation was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Phaco without OVD produces comparable results with the conventional technique with reduced cost, less surgical time and no OVD related complications.
