Abstract

Study design – prospective study
purpose- to study the incidence and etiology of motor nerve palsies in the eye
Methods- twenty patients with motor nerve palsies of eye are included in the study.they were subjected to complete ocular examination, blood sugar, blood pressure,lipid profile,ESR,X-ray skull, CT scan of brain
Results-incidence of 3rd nerve palsies were 35%,6th nerve palsies were 35%,7th nerve palsies were 30%.Of all 3rd nerve palsies,71.4%were isolated 3rd nerve palsies of diabetic etiology. most of 6th nerve palsies were of diabetes & hypertensive etiology. most of 7th nerve palsies are of idiopathic etiology
conclusion-motor nerve palsies should be thoroughly investigated in association with other specialists.timely interventionmay result in early recovery of the symptoms
