FP0182 : PCR for Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome in Granulomatous Anterior Uveitis – Analyzing 51 eyes

Abstract

Study Design: Retrospective
Purpose: To evaluate role of PCR in granulomatous anterior uveitis patients and its correlation with Mantoux, QuantiFERON-TB Gold test and HRCT-Chest
Method: Data of 51 eyes of 38 patients who presented with granulomatous anterior uveitis & underwent aqueous humor PCR for MTb genome was analyzed
Result: PCR for Mtb genome was positive in 24(63.2%) patients. 9 patients (75%) were positive for both Mantoux test and PCR while 3 (25%) showed negative Mantoux but positive PCR results. 9 patients (60%) were positive for both QuantiFERON TB Gold test & PCR while 6 patients(40%) with negative QTB test showed positive PCR results. 8 patients(40%) had positive HRCT chest finding with PCR positivity for MTb while 12 patients(60%) didn’t have significant finding on HRCT Chest but PCR was positive
Conclusion: PCR is a valuable tool in diagnosis of tubercular anterior uveitis & can be positive even in cases of negative Mantoux, QuantiFERON-TB Gold test and HRCT Chest
