FP0439 : Management of Large angle exodeviation with hang back recessions

Abstract

Design- Retrospective study
Purpose- Reporting the effectiveness of large angle exotropia with hang back recession by tackling only one eye
Methods- All the patients who underwent hang back recessions between 2021- 2023 were included in this study. Pre and post surgery deviations were documented including pictures along with abduction range (from-1 to -3). Patients satisfaction was evaluated based on patient choosing one of the following- dissatisfied, satisfied or delighted.
Results- 42 patients were included in this study with a mean pre op deviation of 86 ±9 PD to 4 ±3.5 PD. Majority of them had full range of motion for abduction (83%), except 5 patients who had -1 limitation and 2 patients had -0.5 limitation after 6 months. Successful correction (<10PD) was seen 40 patients. Except for 2 patients all patients were satisfied (n=10) and delighted(n=30) with surgical procedure.
Conclusion- Performing larger recessions in one eye is good surgical option for large angle exodeviations
