Abstract
Study Design: Retrospective, observational case series. Purpose: To study the functional and cosmetic outcome of socket reconstruction with the usage of spherical acrylic implant with mucous membrane grafting in the same sitting. Methods: 30 patients of different age groups presenting with contracted anophthalmic sockets and post enucleation socket syndrome sockets over the last 2 years were included. Socket reconstruction with spherical acrylic orbital implant and mucous membrane grafting with fornix forming sutures for the superior and inferior fornix reconstruction was done in all the patients. Clinical outcomes were assessed and statistically analyzed. Results: All cases had good sockets with adequate fornices for a well fitting ocular prosthesis at the 10 week marks except 2 patients requiring revision of the fornices, 1 requiring further surface correction. No exposure or extrusion of the implant noted in any of the patients.
