FP1000 : THYROID ASSOCIATED OPHTHALMOPATHY:STUDY CORRELATING CLINICAL PROFILE,HORMONAL STATUS&ORBITAL IMAGING

Abstract

Thyroid associated ophthalmopathy is a complex autoimmune inflammatory disease affecting orbital muscles and fats that can be sight threatening, debilitating and disfiguring.TAO mostly associated with graves disease but can also manifest in an euthyroid state or in hypothyroidism.Exophthalmos can be due to EOM or orbital fat involvement deciding how early and severely compressive neuropathy may develop.
Objective:To evaluate and correlate the ocular clinical manifestations with the orbital imaging and hormonal status in TED.
Methodology:A prospective observational study of 6 months with 25 patients of various age groups with signs and symptoms of thyroid ophthalmopathy visiting RIO,GMCH.
Observation:Out of 25 patients,76% had Bilateral Ophthalmopathy,24% had unilateral ophthalmopathy,80%had hyperthyroidism, 4% had hypothyroidism, 16%were euthyroid.
On various imaging studies of orbits ( USG B Scan / CT scan / MRI ) 15 cases (60%) had enlarged EOM, most commonly involving IR muscle
