Abstract
Background:This study aimed to evaluate feasibility, cosmetic outcome and donor site complications of multistage Mucous Membrane Grafting (MMG) from single donor site in management of severely contracted socket
Methods:Prospective, non-randomized study, 07 patients with severely contracted socket (grade 3-5) underwent multistage MMG harvested from from inner aspect of lower lip. Resurgery 08 weeks later after reassessment of residual contraction. Patients evaluated for ability to retain the customised prosthesis
Results:Mean age 43.5 years. Majority grade 4 contraction. Majority required 2 stages of MMG while 2 patient required 3 stages. All patients except one with grade 5 contraction were able to retain customised prosthesis with satisfactory cosmesis. No patient developed donor site infection or contracture
Conclusion: Multistage MMG from single donor site is effective technique in terms of ease of surgery, cost effectiveness, ability to retain prosthesis and cosmetic outcome
