Abstract
A cross-sectional questionnaire based study was conducted to identify preference for presbyopic correction, based on comfort & quality of stereopsis while operating, among 30 ophthalmic surgeons. We enquired about refractive error, choice of spectacle type, mode of correction used while operating (spectacle or microscopic adjustment), level of stereopsis with both & preferred method for surgical time out.
The refractive error was simple astigmatism in 66.6% & compound astigmatism in 16.7%, along with presbyopia. Use of microscopic adjustment was preferred by 60%, spectacle usage by 20%, and no refractive correction by 20%. 80% surgeons found stereopsis to be better with microscopic adjustment. 20% use spectacles, 20% magnifying glass and 60% preferred no
refractive correction for surgical time out.
Most surgeons, excluding the ones with compound astigmatism, preferred to use microscopic adjustment to correct presbyopia while operating and suggest better stereopsis with the same.
