Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate efficacy of DIMS vs 0.01%atropine & combined approach for myopia
controlMethods: Prospective controlled observational study including 150 children with progressive myopia. Parents chose one of 4 options:0.01%atropine, DIMS(Hoya®
MiyoSmart®)glasses, combination of atropine & DIMS, or standard single vision
glasses(control group).Spherical equivalent refraction(SER)& axial
length(AL),were measured at baseline & after 3, 6 & 12 monthsResult: Among 150 participants(mean age 10.73.0),53 received
atropine,30 DIMS glasses,31 DIMS& Atropine,& 36 control specs. Analysis showed
that all treatment groups, compared to the control, had significantly reduced
myopia progression for SER(p<0.0013)& AL(p<0.004)at 6 &12 months, controlling
for age & baseline values. At 12 months, the DIMS& Atropine group showed
significantly less SER progression as compared to DIMS or Atropine
groups(p<0.001) aloneConclusion:Combined DIMS& atropine are most successful at reducing myopia progression
