Abstract
To evaluate the magnitude of oxidative stress and level of enzymatic antioxidants in eyelid sebaceous gland carcinoma(SGC) patients receiving cis-platinum based chemotherapy. We measured level of antioxidant enzyme; Superoxide
dismutase(SOD) and indicator of lipid peroxidation; Malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum of 16 biopsy proven patients of eyelid SGC receiving Cis-platin,5FU combination chemotherapy and16 healthy age-matched controls. RESULTS:50% SGC cases were in advanced stage and 37.5% had nodal metastasis. Partial response of chemotherapy was observed in 75% cases. Serum SOD level was lower in SGC cases than in healthy controls.Serum MDA level was significantly higher than in SGC cases than healthy controls. Oxidative stress(sMDA)was significantly decreased after chemotherapy.Antioxidant level (sSOD) was significantly increased after chemotherapy .Post chemo increase in sSOD and decrease in sMDA was more marked in metastatic and advanced stage SGC.
