FP0413 : Choroidal metastases as presenting feature of disseminated malignancy: Outcomes & Clinical Features

Abstract

Study Design: Retrospective case series
Purpose: To report the characteristics and outcomes of cases where the choroidal mass was the presenting feature of previously undiagnosed metastatic cancer.
Results: Total of 14 eyes (12 pts) were included. Mean age: 62.5. Ten patients had unilateral lesions; 2/12 had bilateral lesions. In 10/14 (71.4%), solitary mass lesions were seen. Lung was the most common primary site (4/14;28.6%) followed by breast. Mean duration from onset of symptoms to presentation was 12.6 days. Mean number of metastatic sites involved (PET-CT) at diagnosis was 2.3. Mean follow up period: 12.4 months. 50% patients died due to disease and mean duration from diagnosis to death was 4.8 months.
Results: Patients with solitary lesions had marginally higher survival compared to patients with multifocal lesions. Unilateral, solitary choroidal masses are most common presentation of choroidal mets in cases where they are the initial presenting feature of disseminated cancer.
